Product Care

In order for you to care for your items properly, we've put together care instructions for many of the collections and brands we carry.

Match

Stemware and Barware
Must always be washed by hand. Please do not soak these items in hot water or place them in the dishwasher. This will compromise the bond between the crystal and the pewter, and possibly lead to separation.
Dinnerware

Dishwasher safe at low temperatures.
Flatware
Dishwasher safe. We recommend that you use a low heat setting with a liquid dishwasher soap.
Serving Pieces
Should be washed in warm soapy water and hand dried.

Arte Italica

Silver and Gold-gilded Items (Vetro Gold & Silver, Baroque Gold & Silver, Vittoria Gold & Silver, Cristallo)
Our gilded pieces should never be placed in the dishwasher, oven or microwave.  Please hand wash with a non-abrasive detergent to ensure the beauty of the piece.  We recommend the use of a soft jewelry cloth to buff any tarnish that occurs naturally on our silver-gilded pieces.
Pewter & Glass (Anna, Animale, Fantasia, Giovanna, Milano, Splendore, Taverna, Tavola, Tesoro, Verona)
All of our pewter & glass items are handmade of Italian pewter and either mouth-blown glass or crystal.  Mouth-blown glass can be irregular in shape and may contain small bubbles and imperfections, which is expected.  The pewter and glass are fused together with a special clamping machine and/or industrial epoxy.  All pewter & glass items should be washed by hand using non-abrasive, non-citrus detergent.  These items should not be used in the oven, microwave, or freezer.  Our pewter & glass drinkware collections should not be submerged in warm water to soak but should be washed individually and dried.
Pewter & Ceramic (Tuscan, Perlina, Festivo, Caffe, Venus)
Our pewter and ceramic dishes may be washed in the dishwasher on a low-heat setting, using a mild detergent.  Abrasive or citrus-scented detergents should be avoided.  This collection is not safe for oven, microwave or freezer use.  When exposed to extreme temperatures, the pewter and ceramic may separate.  If this should happen, we recommend the use of a clear epoxy (Duco Cement) to repair the bond.

Pewter (Anna, DiVinci, Donatello, Cherubino, Cypress, Fantasia, Lucia, Medici, Peltro, Roma, Romana, Solid Pewter, Taverna, Tavola, Terra Frames, Veneto, Vintage Pewter,)
Pewter, the fourth most precious metal in existence, is comprised of mostly tin and small amounts antimony and copper to add strength and durability. Arte Italica pewter is made using 95% tin - the highest possible content and the highest possible quality.
Pewter does not tarnish like silver, and rarely requires polishing.  Pewter is a soft metal, and is susceptible to scratching.  To remove scratches, simply buff gently with the finest grade "0000" steel wool.  Pewter should never be used in the oven or microwave.  Pewter is dishwasher -safe on a low-heat setting.  Please avoid abrasive or citrus-scented detergent.  As with any metal, prolonged exposure to citrus, vinegar and other acidic foods can harm the finish of pewter, so please wash your pewter immediately.

Ceramic Dinnerware & Serveware (Amorini, Bella Bianca, Cherubino, Merletto, Medici, Palazzo, Pompeii, Riverbero, Rosone, Vigna Vecchia)
Our ceramic dinnerware collections are dishwasher safe on the low-heat, air-dry cycle, using non-abrasive detergents. Our Amorini, Bella Bianca, Medici, Merletto and Vigna Vecchia collections ONLY are microwavable.

Vietri

Earthenware and Italian Stoneware

All Italian stoneware collections are microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher safe and highly resistant to chipping. All earthenware (terra cotta, terra bianca and terra marrone) collections are dishwasher safe and most are microwave safe. Some may be placed in the freezer and oven if noted. Use the low energy/air dry cycle and don't overload the dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended for decorative and oversized accessories. All dinnerware and serving accessories meet FDA and Prop 65 requirements.

All Italian stoneware collections and most earthenware collections are microwave safe when noted. The temperature of certain items may vary after microwave use. Please use the following precautions:

  • Use a pot holder or oven mitt when handling the product.
  • Do not permit children to handle product that has been heated in a microwave.
  • Do not put products into a microwave without food or liquid on or inside the piece.
  • Allow item to cool before taking it out of the microwave.

Oven-To-Table

VIETRI casseroles and baking dishes are heat resistant to 400 degrees. All ceramic baking dishes, except Incanto and Italian stoneware collections, must be "cured" before use. Fully submerge in water for 15 minutes prior to each use to prepare the dish, reduce cooking time and prevent food from sticking. Place bakers in a room-temperature oven and bring to cooking temperature – just like the Italians do! Hot baking dishes should never be placed on cool, damp or unprotected surfaces or taken directly from the refrigerator or freezer to the oven. Handles are decorative and should not be used for support. Remove from the oven by holding the body of the dish, supporting the base. Do not use casserole lids in the oven.

Table Linens

Terra Linens - Machine wash cold or warm, do not bleach, tumble dry low and use a warm iron if necessary.
Accent Napkins And Placemats - Wash in cold water. Dry flat and use a warm iron if necessary.

Michael Aram

Each Michael Aram metal object undergoes a series of grinding, buffing and polishing techniques. Variations or 'imperfections' in the product's finish are characteristics of the creation process. Due to this handmade nature, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.
